ITALY, Tuscany, Grand Duchy. Cosimo III, 1670-1723. Testone (Silver, 32 mm, 8.93 g, 6 h), Florence, 1676. COSMVS.III.D.G.MA.D.ETRV.VI. Draped and cuirassed bust of Cosimo III to right. Rev. S.IOANNES BAPTISTA / 1676 John the Baptist, nimbate, seated facing, turned slightly to the left, wearing animal's skin and raising his right hand in benediction and holding long cross with his left; at his feet to right, lamb. MIR 332/2. Lightly toned, very well-struck, with an idealistically handsome portrait of the grand duke, and unusually finely preserved. Good extremely fine.
