Medal (Silver, 56 mm, 31.27 g, 12 h), a cast medal, made in imitation of engraving, presented as a reward to the Civic Guard by the City Council in recognition of their bravery in defending the city from Willem II's attack in 1650. Jn 't vreedenjubeljaer op Julij 30 net wert Amsterdam berendt vant S'prinste volck beset. Verlaten den 4. Augustij 1650 = ("On July 30th of the jubilee year of Peace Amsterdam was besieged by the troops of the Prince, but vacated on 4 August") View of Amsterdam with its fortifications and with armed ships from Holland on the Amstel before the city; above, in clouds, hand of God holding a liberty hat and olive branches; around the clouds, Ons hert in hant, is voor het lant = ("Our heart and hands are at the service of the country"). Rev. Uyt Hecktors 2. Rodt, wert Amstels Staet gedaght. By dit haer silver lodt, uyt haer versuymde wacht. 1652, in May = ("This token commemorating Amsterdam's situation has been distributed to the 2nd Regiment, called Hektor, and was made of the silver from fines for neglected guards, May 1652") Armored rider, with shield bearing a rampant lion, galloping to left; below, on the ground, Hecktor.
