SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.81 g, 3 h), unsigned but in the style of Eukleidas, circa 400. Charioteer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in both, driving fast quadriga to left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer with a wreath held in both hands; in exergue, dolphin swimming to left. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Head of Arethusa to left, her hair bound with sphendone over which several tresses fly behind, wearing double-loop earring and plain necklace with pendant; around head, four dolphins swimming, two clockwise, and two anticlockwise.
