Euboia, Euboian League, Eretria, silver tetradrachm, (400-395 B.C.), (Wallace claims about 400 B.C.), (Dewing 357-338 B.C.), (16.54 g), (on the Aeginatic standard), obv. head of nymph Euboia to right, hair rolled, wearing no earring or necklace, rev. cow standing to right on exergue line, head turned three-quarter right, EYB above. (S.2463 [p.231 �2000], Wallace 14 Group 1 obv.VI, rev.8 [NN&M 134, p.140 notes 13 coins from these dies including probably this coin [in Trade, Athens, 1950 from hoard 11]), Num. Circ. Feb. 1977 No.946 (This Coin), ACNAC Dewing No.1549 [p.97, Pl.83, same dies], Naville XVI, 1933 [lot 1180, same dies], HGC 4, 1413 [R] [same dies]). Very fine and very rare.

Ex Classical Nunismatic Group Mail bid sale September 13, 2000 (lot 351) with Spink ticket (priced �895]; and ex Spink & Son, London Numismatic Circular, February 1977, No.946 (illustrated and priced �1750) and probably from the Greek hoard found c.1949 and sold in Athens (a coin worn from the same dies, and photographed).

Only 41 tetradrachms are known (Wallace) from this Euboian League and most are in the various museums. 13 coins come from this pair of dies, 21 coins from the EYB type and 20 coins from the EYBOI type. The last coin in Coin Archives, a very similar example, sold by Kunker, Germany, Sale 153, 14 March 2009 (lot 8279) and realised 8500 Euros ($10,958 US).
