Cilicia, Tarsos, (c.425-400 B.C.), silver stater, (10.13 g), obv. Persian Satrap (or King of Cilicia) on horseback to right, dotted border, rev. TRZ (Tarsos in Aramaic above), naked archer kneeling right wearing crested Corinthian helmet, holding lance and shield, square border of dots and shallow incuse. Obverse die showing some breaking down as noted on other published examples, (S.-, Babelon Traite, Trait II, 504 Pl.CV, 1 = P.A. 139a = Waddington 4552; BMC pl.XXVIII, 4; SNG von Aulock 5911, SNG Switz. Levante -, SNG Paris 215). Very fine, rough surface and very rare.
