Ex Dr L.J. Sherwin Collection from Jean Elsen with his ticket, Auction 76 (lot 186), September 13, 2003. Antiochos XIII was the last of the great line of Seleukid kings. He spent his youth in Asia and Rome, and following the withdrawal of Tigranes II from Syria the Romans placed him on the Seleukid throne. His reign was very turbulent, and in 64 B.C., he was ousted by Pompey and Syria was annexed as a Roman province.
