Claudius, (41-54 A.D.), silver denarius, (3.48 g), Rome mint, struck 51-52, obv. [TI CLAVD] CAESAR AVG P M TR P XI IMP P P COS V, laureate head right, rev. PACI AVGVST[AE], Pax-Nemesis advancing right, holding out fold of drapery below chin, and holding winged caduceus, pointing down at erect snake, gliding right, (cf.S.1846, RIC I 37, von Kaenel Type 3, RSC 68). Toned, porous, heavy cleaning scratches, surface roughness, banker's mark on obverse, otherwise nearly fine and rare.

Ex Dr L.J. Sherwin, bought from the Australian Numismatic Co Sale 75 (lot 116), September 3, 1992, previously from the Meszaros Collection.
