Recommendation: 'For consistent and most noticeable bravery and devotion to duty as a runner and guide on forward work during the past six months. Around Villers-Bretonneux he distinguished himself as a guide under heavy fire, most noticeable on about 18.7.18, when he went back through heavy barrage and guided parties on to their tasks. On 27.7.18 he showed conspicuous gallantry in getting an urgent message and instructions through a gas bombardment at about 2am, his whole work that morning was of great value. His bearing is always soldierly and brave under fire'.
