China People's Bank of China 5 Yuan 1953 Pick 869a S/M#C283-13 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. The brown 5 Yuan from the 1953 series is surprisingly rare, especially in Gem Uncirculated grade. In fact, in the last decade, only two examples in this grade have been sold in a major, traceable auction. Although dated 1953, this note was not issued until 1955, and was replaced in 1956 by a purple and yellow banknote of the same design. Essentially a 1-year type, this note was often forged.
