Hong Kong Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China 100 Dollars 2.12.1929 Pick 52cts Color Trial Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. From 1911 to 1960, Waterlow & Sons printed banknotes for the Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China and the subsequent Chartered Bank. This beautiful and important design is missing from many collections. Due to its high denomination and associated purchasing power, it was almost immediately counterfeited by skilled craftsman. This design only features two dates, 1929 and 1930, but due to the numerous forgeries with weak watermarks in existence, a completely new design, atop completely watermarked paper, was issued in 1934. Brown and green replace blue tones on the Color Trial, created by Waterlow & Sons to highlight its banknote printing prowess. Hole punched cancellations and red overprints have been added to confirm Specimen status. An iconic design, this type is very rare in any format. The Gem designated quality of this beautiful Specimen is on full display through the third party holder.
