Malaya Board of Commissioners of Currency 1 Dollar 1.1.1940 Pick 4s KNB3b Specimen PMG Uncirculated 61 Net. As Britain increased its influence in the Malay peninsula, a new currency system was needed. The first series of currency for Malaya was ultimately ill-fated, as two cargo ships with notes never arrived. As such, it was decided that the green $1 and the blue $5 were not to be officially issued. Some notes that did arrive safely were held in vaults in Penang and Singapore, of which some were destroyed and some were collected by invading Japanese forces. Additionally, a few other notes from a scuttled cargo ship actually floated to shore and entered circulation by locals. As this type was ultimately not issued, only a few examples are known to survive. This Specimen represents the initial denomination of the 1940 series. Two perforated cancellations, printer notations, along with rust, staple holes and mounting remnants are mentioned for accuracy. A highly desirable note in any format, this is a key type for the country. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/malaya-board-of-commissioners-of-currency-1-dollar-111940-pick-4s-knb3b-specimen-pmg-uncirculated-61-net/a/4034-26454.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4034-12112021 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
