Malaya Board of Commissioners of Currency 5 Dollars 1.1.1940 Pick 5s KNB4b Specimen PMG Uncirculated 61 Net. The 1940 series currency notes prepared for Malaya are well known in the paper money world for their rarity and demise. The first Malayan series was to replace the previous Straits Settlements issues in 1940, but only the purple $10 denomination was actually issued. The green $1 and the blue $5 were ultimately unissued due to a number of factors. First, multiple shipments from Waterlow & Sons to Singapore and Penang were lost at sea. While some bricks of notes did arrive safely, they were held in vaults due to the advance of the Japanese army as World War II overwhelmed Southeast Asia. This handsome Specimen represents the incredibly rare $5 printed in blue. Printer notations, rust, staple holes, rust, and mounting remnants are mentioned for accuracy. This iconic rarity is missing from most collections. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/malaya-board-of-commissioners-of-currency-5-dollars-111940-pick-5s-knb4b-specimen-pmg-uncirculated-61-net/a/4034-26455.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4034-12112021 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
