Straits Settlements Government of the Straits Settlements 5 Dollars 1.1.1929 Pick 10ax Contemporary Counterfeit PMG Very Fine 20. Thomas de la Rue outdid itself with this series of notes for the Straits Settlements. A talented local forger attempted to recreate this second denomination, and it appears he or she was successful. This counterfeit circulated extensively before being retired. Compared to a genuine note, this example features weak details, imprecise ink application, a low grade watermark, and some other imperfections. Nevertheless, an excellent attempt, and an interesting bit of history for the region and an affordable way to acquire this design, although not from de la Rue.
