Straits Settlements Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, Singapore 10 Dollars ND (c. 25.5.1895) Pick S112 PMG Fine 12 Net. As a financial instrument for the British Empire, the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China opened branches across new outposts throughout Asia and the Pacific. A common design for banknotes from this issuer was used, but specific cities of issue were applied for the regional offerings. This example was issued and circulated in Singapore during the colony's first century of existence. The tropical climate, purchasing power, and small issue totals are all reasons why so few of these iconic banknotes exist to be enjoyed today. We have not offered this note in the past, and known examples in the collecting world are scant. Only one example grades finer in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging. Two Chinese characters are visible on the back, and minor restoration is mentioned for accuracy on the third party holder. Due to the age of this banknote, climate conditions, and circulation, the manuscript signatures and date have mostly faded from view. Tonight is an important opportunity to acquire an extremely rare note which has not appeared in a major American or European auction in traceable history. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/straits-settlements-chartered-bank-of-india-australia-and-china-singapore-10-dollars-nd-c-2551895-pick-s112/a/4034-26538.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4034-12112021 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
