CHINA. Hunan. Tael, ND (1906). Changsha Mint. PCGS MS-63.
L&M-416; K-952; WS-0927. Obverse: Hu Nan Guan Qian Ju Zao (made at the Hunan Official Coin Bureau); Reverse: Sheng Ping Zu Wen Yi Liang (provincial weight standard, pure fine silver, one ounce). A stunning survivor, this heavy-weight cake-type issue displays crisp detailing through the designs and attractive centering. In the fields, soft luster appears, with an interesting toning pattern present on the horizonal characters side that displays a window of brilliance in the center with deeper surrounding tone. Easily the finest example that we've offered of this issue, and not surprisingly, also unsurpassed in quality at PCGS, this being one of only two certified in this top grade. Accordingly, a coin that should attract intense interest from collectors focusing on this charming and elusive series.
