CHINA. Shanghai. French Concession. Aluminum Fen (Cent) Omnibus Token, ND (1939). PCGS MS-62.
Lec-3. Third issue. Obverse: Bus right; in three lines below, THE CHINA GENERAL / OMNIBUS CO. / LTD.; Reverse: J.D.S. in cursive script. A bright and fairly flashy example of this popular type.

Established in 1922 (though some sources cite 1924), the China General Omnibus Co. Ltd. was a British-owned company that was registered in Hong Kong, but exclusively served the Shanghai market. It was founded by J. A. Fredericks, with J. D. Shatler serving in the role of General Manager. It is the signed initials of the latter that make an appearance on the cent denomination of the company's third series of issues, as is the case here.

From the Hobart Collection.

Estimate: $100 - $200
