Silver Tael Pattern Restrike, CD (1906). Tientsin Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-64.
L&M-16; K-934; KM-Pn300; WS-0021; Wenchao-85 (rarity four stars). A SUPERB RARITY, this Tael displays classic iconography of China with a coiled dragon motif on the obverse and a beautiful woven pattern that encases Chinese and Manchu characters. One of the finest examples that PCGS has certified, this example is fully struck in glorious detail and there is significant pebbling from die rust, which is one of the diagnostics for this popular restrike. A hint of almond tone covers the entirety of the surfaces with portions of integrated golden and blue iridescence appearing on both sides. The tone gives the surfaces a sedate and matted appearance with limited brilliance shining through. Being one of the premier coins of the whole Chinese Empire series, this example is sure to command much enthusiasm from advanced collectors and numismatists. The availability of supreme near-Gem examples of this type are few and far between, and there should be arduous competition to be the winning paddle.
Estimate: $200000 - $400000
