(t) CHINA. Mint Error -- Obv/Rev Die Damage -- Dollar, Year 10 (1921). PCGS MS-62.
L&M-79; K-668; KM-Y-329.6; WS-0183-1. Exhibiting some rather dramatic damage to the dies, this specimen appears to have been struck with a reverse die that experienced some damage to the right of the "yuan" character that, after some rather harsh clashing, transferred the incuse nature to the obverse die, allowing the resulting obverse strike to appear as a "growth" on the cheek of Yuan Shih-kai. Further die clashing is noted on the reverse, emanating from Yuan's collar below the "yuan" character, as well as some rather extensive die polishing throughout the fields. For the collector of interesting die variants and coins with extreme character, few can top this enticing specimen.
Estimate: $600 - $900
