CHINA. General/Governor Choa Silver Medal for Merit, ND (ca. 1916). PCGS Genuine--Edge Repaired, AU Details.
L&M-946; KMX-580. Obverse: Facing bust of Governor Choa; Reverse: Crossed flags, two characters below and flower above. The finest example of this EXTREMELY RARE medal we have seen, featuring a bold strike on both sides and pleasant tone. The aforementioned edge repair, while difficult to see in the holder, likely refers to the smoothing of a mount removal. Only the second example of this type we have offered, the last appearing in our August 2011 auction where a scratched example with similar detail brought $3,883.75. Considering that the appearance of this piece is far superior, we suspect that number could be surpassed by many multiples this time around.
Estimate: $7500 - $15000
