CHINA. Copper-Nickel Good For 10 Pounds Token, ND (ca. 1912-20). Heaton Mint. PCGS Genuine--Harshly Cleaned, AU Details.
Issued by the S.I.C.S & R. Co. Ltd (Shanghai Ice Cold Storage & Refrigeration Company). Centrally holed and with a plain edge. Some light hairlines from a cleaning. This company existed from 1912-1956 coinciding with the peak and fall of the commercial ice trade. This token was produced at Heaton Mint in Birmingham and would have been used by a wealthy person for procurement of 10 pounds worth of ice to cool their home or food in the summer. A very interesting bit of historical trivia.
Estimate: $100 - $200
