Kansu. Republic Sun Yat-sen Dollar Year 17 (1928) XF Details (Cleaned) NGC, Lanzhou mint, KM-Y410, L&M-618, Kann-760, Chang-CH187, WS-0720, Wenchao-1034 (rarity 3 stars). Issued under Feng Yu Hsiang. One of a mere two collectible silver Dollar types from Kansu Province, and by far the rarer of the two, with the Sun Yat-sen pieces both occurring with far greater infrequency on the auction market than their Yuan Shih-kai counterparts, as well as generally proving more desirable among collectors. While likely cleaned at one point to remove a darker tone, traces of which can still be seen around the characters, the issue is virtually always found with conditional modifiers, and the fact that an example in the same grade recently brought $38,400 in our June Hong Kong sale certainly speaks to just how covetable the coin is on the whole.
