Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1898 XF40 PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145a.2, L&M-217 var. (there, with raised eyeballs), Kann-71b, Chang-CH66 var. (there, with raised eyeballs), Shanghai Museum-451, WS-0799, Wenchao-647 (rarity 1 star). Dragon with incuse eyes (no eyeball), small letters variety. An honestly circulated presentation of this coveted Kiangnan Dollar variety, presenting darkened charcoal color around the features that pick out the devices in a sharp visual contrast to the surrounding fields. Though scattered handling appears over the surfaces, underlying micro-fine flow lines can be detected under magnification, pointing to the coin's careful striking. Though the variety is not noted in the standard literature, on this specimen the cyclical character Xu appears to be connected.
