China
Yunnan. Republic Tael ND (1943-1944) MS61 PCGS, KM-X3 (prev. KM-A3; under French-Indo China), L&M-435, Kann-939, Lec-325. Small deer head type. Always contested as a type, particularly in Mint State certification, this relic of the Opium trade comes imbued with all of the trademarks so iconic for the series--icy white luster, fine machining marks along the rims, and a general paucity of toning. While some scattered wisps exist across the open fields, this is far from unusual for the issue, and does generally little to hamper the coin's eye appeal on the whole.
