British Colony. Victoria Proof Medallic "City Hall" Dollar 1867 UNC Details (Spot Removed) PCGS, Hong Kong mint, KM-Unl., Prid-318. 38mm. Plain edge. Struck from the obverse die of a standard Victorian Hong Kong Dollar (cf. KM10). An impressive medallic issue, produced for distribution to important attendants of the ceremony of the laying of the Hong Kong City Hall foundation stone. Among only a small handful that we have been able to trace, the present offering contains a charming glassy finish punctuated by a navy tone around the reverse inscription. The first example of the type we have offered, with an AU58-graded specimen bringing the equivalent of $27,398 in July of this year.
