Meiji Trade Dollar Year 9 (1876) MS62 Prooflike NGC, Osaka mint, KM-Y14, J&V-R3, JNDA 01-12, JC-09-12-1. A coin whose essentially Proof characteristics are readily apparently as soon as it is tilted at even the slightest angle, unleashing waves of glassy flare and full reflectivity even from an arm's length. Indeed, while NGC has not awarded full Proof grades for the series, it has assigned just 13 Year 9 Trade Dollars with Prooflike designations, as compared to the 100 examples that have simply been certified as standard business strikes. Much like the other specimens we have handled in this finish, the current coin shows an overall minimum of tone, preserving an icy white color that speaks to mint fresh quality.
