Spanish Colony. Alfonso XIII copper Proof Pattern 2 Centavos 1894 PR63 Brown NGC, Manila mint, KM-Pn19, Cay-17663, Cal-121, Basso-92 (Extremely Rare). By Bartolome Maura y Montañer. A heavily coveted Pattern type, produced following a decree of December 15, 1893 providing for the provisional reopening of the Manila mint. Basso supposes that while the decree authorized the mintage of both copper and silver one and two Centavos pieces, no silver issues were struck, with the total population for this denomination perhaps being as low as 10 total pieces. Colorfully toned and notably glassy, this is only the second example we have ever offered, with the Czahor specimen, an SP64 Brown from PCGS, bringing $14,000 in 2019.
