China
Sinkiang. Hsüan-t'ung 5 Miscals (5 Mace) ND (1910) XF45 NGC, KM-Y6.1 (1905), L&M-819, Hsien-Chang-205. Variety with ring around dragon, no rosettes, and no marks in the center of the obverse (reverse as holdered). Among the finer examples of the type currently in the NGC census, with just two examples yet certified as fully Mint State. Despite darkened wear patterns over the highest points of the design, these raised elements seem to have shielded the fields from serious contact, leaving boldly defined concentric machining marks visible to even the naked eye. While the Standard Catalog places this issue under 1905 and Kuang-hsü's reign, both Lin and Ma and Hsien-Chang date it to 1910 (AH 1328).
