Sinkiang. Republic Sar (Tael) Year 1 (1912) AU Details (Environmental Damage) PCGS, Tihwa mint, KM-Y42, L&M-834. A highly unusual Sinkiang Sar that, despite that prominent evidence of environmental damage, will surely entice collectors of the Chinese numismatics for the seemingly unique overstrike seen here. While the initial appearances are that of the 2 stripes of arabesque variety, further magnification indicates the host as originally a 4 stripes of arabesque variety, distinguished by the visible shadows of the undertype flags continuing towards the poles. A cursory search provides no comparable examples with this configuration, making this a singular opportunity to own such an enigmatic piece.
