China
Qing Dynasty. Wen Zong (Xian Feng) 50 Cash ND (1854-1855) Certified 85 by Gong Bo Grading, Suzhou or other local mint (Kiangsu Province), Hartill-22.912. 54mm. 42.4gm. An unusually finely engraved example of this larger multiple cash denomination, exhibiting pronounced filing marks over both sides. Interestingly, though several of these characteristics are similar to what one would expect for a Mother Coin (mu qian), neither Jen nor the catalog of the Shanghai Museum Collection lists a Mother 50 Cash from the Suzhou mint. Jen does, however, list two wide-rimmed specimens which he designates as "Trial Pieces" (Jen-1642 and 1643), which are engraved in a distinctively different hand.
