C. Servilius M.f, 136 BC. Denarius (Silver, 21 mm, 3.52 g, 5 h), Rome. ROMA Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet, pendant earring and necklace; behind, wreath above two stars. Rev. C•SERVEILI•M•F The Dioscuri on horseback rearing in opposing directions, heads facing one another, each holding couched spear; above, stars. Babelon (Servilia) 1. Crawford 239/1. RBW 984. Sydenham 525. Minor edge crack and with light marks, otherwise, about very fine.


From the Red Ox Collection and the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.
