L. Porcius Licinus, 118 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.76 g, 12 h), with L. Licinius Crassus and Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus, Rome. L•PORCI - LICI Head of Roma to right, wearing crested and winged helmet; behind, ✱ (mark of value). Rev. Bearded warrior driving fast biga to right, holding reins, shield and carnyx in his left hand and hurling spear with his right; in exergue, [L•LIC•CN•DOM]. Babelon (Antestia) 1. Crawford 219/1e. From the Red Ox Collection and the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.
