Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 2.36 g, 9 h), a contemporary imitation, irregular mint, after 46. SALVTIS Head of Salus to right, wearing laurel wreath, pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. CAESAR Trophy of Gallic arms; at base to left, draped female captive seated to left, in mourning attitude; at base to right, bearded Gaulish captive kneeling right, his head turned back toward trophy. Some scratches and with minor deposits, otherwise, good fine.


This interesting hybrid issue combines an obverse of Man. Acilius Glabrio with a reverse of Julius Caesar in error.
