Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Electrum, 27 mm, 4.12 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers and flanked by two symbols. Rev. Emperor kneeling slightly to right, being presented by Archangel Michael to Christ enthroned slightly to left and holding scroll in his left hand; to left and right, traces of legend; between Christ and Michael, ✱. SB 2242. Some areas of weakness and with minor graffiti, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
