ISLAMIC, Mamluks. al-Zahir Rukn al-Din Baybars I, AH 658-676 / AD 1260-1277. Dinar (Gold, 21 mm, 4.39 g, 7 h), Dimashq, date off flan. 'This dinar was struck in al-Qahira / no god but Allah / Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah / who sent him with guidance / and the religion of truth' (in Arabic). Rev. 'al-Salihi / al-Sultan al-Malik / Pillar of the World and the Faith / Baybars, Partner of the Commander of the Faithful' (all in Arabic); below, lion walking to left. Album 880. Very rare. Well struck and unusually attractive. Struck on a somewhat short flan as usual, otherwise, about extremely fine.
