KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.77 g, 1 h), Babylon, struck under Peithon, circa 315-311. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, monogram of XA. CNG 72 (2006), 449 (same dies). Price -, cf. 3725 (additional monogram under throne). Extremely rare. Nicely toned and of fine style. Very fine.
