AUSTRALIA. Victoria, 1837-1901.
Gold sovereign, 1886 M. Melbourne. Shield.
One of the key dates in the Australian series, the 1886 M shield has a low survival rate despite its average mintage figure. Marsh has given this date an R3, however this does seem a little low considering the 1887 M shield has been given the same rating but appears more often and will cost significantly less.
