(x) Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (VS 1856-96; 1799-1839), Nanakshahi Rupee, 'Amritsar', 11.1g, VS 1881 (1824), with four-petalled flower below bind, and another in loop of tegh, rev. leaf of unusual style with similar four-petalled flower below (Herrli 01.07.04; Gurprit Singh 01.48.02, KM 20.1), one test punch either side, about extremely fine and rare (Tikkanen 526).
A coin of this type was sold by Steve Album for $700 (Auction 21, lot 1307). Gurprit Singh notes that they also exist for VS 1882. He also suggests that they may not have been struck at Amritsar as the calligraphy is so different to that usually found on the issues of this mint.
Estimate: £300 - £400
