Theodosius II, 402-450 AD. Gold Solidus (4.46g). Mint of Constantinople, AD 426-30. Helmeted and cuir. bust three-quarter facing to r., holding spear and shield. Reverse: SALVS REI PVBLICAE, officina mark I. Theodosius and a shorter figure of Valentine, both nimbate, are depicted enthroned facing side by side. S-21144; RIC X, 237-41; DOC 376. Lustrous surfaces and struck on a nice full flan. A touch of rose gold tone around the devices adds to its appeal. Superb Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
