IONIA, Ephesus. 2nd-3rd centuries AD. PB Tessera (15mm, 3.88 g). Three stars over crescent / Blank. Unpublished. Brown patina. VF.
From the Dalzell Collection.
While this type is similar to Roman Imperial coin types issued under Hadrian, the parallels here are likely a coincidence, and the present tessera probably relates in some way to those depicting the cult statue of Artemis Ephesia flanked by a star and cresent (cf. Gülbay & Kireç 179 and 181).
