Philip I. AD 244-249. Æ Sestertius (31mm, 17.42 g, 12h). Ludi Saeculares (Secular Games) issue, commemorating the 1000th anniversary of Rome. Rome mint, 6th officina. 10th emission, AD 249. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / SAECVLVM NOVVM, S C in exergue, Nine-columned temple of Roma with statue of Roma seated facing in center. RIC IV –; cf. RIC IV 164 corr. (octastyle temple, rev. legend); cf. Banti 52 (same). Dark brown patina, edge defect. Good VF.

This Ludi Saeculares type marking Rome's 1,000th anniversary normally depicts an octastyle (eight-columned) temple of Roma on the reverse, most likely the gigantic edifice built by Hadrian. This specimen clearly has nine columns, five to the left of the opening, four to the right.
