Enameled coin jewelry was first made by Birmingham jeweler Edwin Steel in 1886. It was particularly popular in the late Victorian period, falling off by the time of the outbreak of World War I. production of enameled coin jewelry in the Britain ceased completely with the 1920 Gold and Silver Act, which banned deliberate mutilation of coins.
