ARGENTINA. 2 Reales (Ar. 5.80g / 23mm). S / D. Minted between 1820 and 1824. Tucumán. Minted in the likeness of 2 Reales de Potosí from the time of Fernando VI. (Km # 1). Good Very Fine. Very scarce. On March 24, 1816, the Congress was inaugurated in Tucumán. Pedro Medrano was elected provisional president and the deputies present swore to defend the Catholic religion and the territorial integrity of the United Provinces. From here starts the independence symbolism that led, a few years later, between 1820 and 1821, to install in this province a mint that minted pieces of the Macuquino type imitating those of Potosí. From the moment it was put into circulation, a large number of forgeries appeared, some in low silver and others directly in silver-plated copper, which led Governor Aráoz to force all the coins, whether authentic or false, a measure that he still discredited. plus these issues, whose face value ended up being reduced in 1824. All these copies share the fact that they bear anomalous dates, the most common being those of the number 752, although it is also possible to find pieces, even rarer, with the date 758.
