Seychelles Government of Seychelles 10 Rupees 11.8.1914 Pick A4 Emergency WW I Issue PMG Choice Very Fine 35 Net. During The Great War the world saw chronic shortages of silver and gold coinage. People did not trust in paper money, and suspected that the "promise to pay the bearer" would be left a hollow promise, depending on who the victor of the war was. The result was that people would hoard precious metals to avoid losing their life savings. In addition to this, getting further coinage to smaller colonies, such as The Seychelles, proved logistically difficult. This wartime, uniface issue was in response to these difficulties, and was an attempt to remedy cash shortages. A very small number were issued, and fewer survived. In fact, this is the sole graded example on the PMG Population Report, and the first to be offered at public auction. The cataloger can't overstate the rarity of this piece, and how it would make the cornerstone of even the most advanced Seychelles/Africa/WWI collection.
