South Africa South Africa Treasury 1 Shilling 2.1.1868 Pick 34 PMG Choice Very Fine 35. Although crudely made, this uniface small change note is an exceptional and historic offering. The South African Republic survived until their defeat in the Second Boer War which ended in 1902. Partially printed and partially handwritten, this note was exchangeable for a silver shilling in British coinage used in the Cape Colony. A three digit serial number, handwritten date, and manuscript signatures complete the note. Minor paper pulls are mentioned. An extremely rare survivor from the earlier days of the Republic, and the first we have offered. Additionally, this is the first and lone example graded in the PMG Population Report.
