BYZANTINE SEALS. Philaretos Brahamios, protokouropalates and megalos domestikos, after 1081. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 23 mm, 16.07 g, 11 h). O/ ΘE/O-/Δ/Ω/ΡΟ/C Nimbate St. Theodore standing facing, holding spear with his left hand and shield with his right. Rev. ΦIΛA/PET A'KOY/POΠΑ ΜΕ[Γ] / ΔΟΜΕCT = Philaretos Protokouropalates and Megas Domestikos, in four lines within round dotted border. An unpublished variation in the standard references!. Good very fine.
Although the surname of Philaretos, doesn't appear on this seal, we can be sure that it was issued by him as we knew that he held both titles of "Protokouropalates" and "Megalos Domestikos". Additionally, the imagery of St. Theodoros, which appears in this seal is almost exclusively appearing in all the other seals of Brachamios. The seals of Philaretos are not really scarce, but this is the only example we know with just these titles and without his surname.
