KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.06 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in southwestern Asia Minor, possibly Side, circa 325-320. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; below throne, ΔΙ. Demanhur 1925-8. Price 2948. Same obverse die as CNG e-auction 161, 28 March 2007, 32, an example of Price 2949. Rare and interesting; the only known example that die-links Price 2948 and 2949. Nearly very fine.
