KINGS OF PAEONIA. Patraos, Circa 335-315 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 12.32 g, 7 h), Astibos or Damastion. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΠΑΤΡΑΟΥ Paeonian horseman, wearing crested helmet and full armor, galloping to right and spearing fallen Macedonian soldier. HGC 3.1, 148. Paeonian Hoard 234 (same dies). SNG ANS 1030-1 (same obverse die). Struck on a uneven flan, otherwise, very fine.


The horse's back has been covered with an ornamented animal pelt tied behind; this is somewhat unusual in the series.
