Isaac II Angelus, first reign, 1185-1195. Aspron Trachy (Silver, 26 mm, 3.10 g, 6 h), Constantinople. MHP - ΘV The Virgin, orans, enthroned facing; on her breast, facing head of infant Christ. Rev. ICAA/KI/OC - ΔEC/ΠO/TH/C Isaac, on left, standing facing and holding cruciform scepter in his right hand and akakia with his left, crowned by Manus Dei at his right. DOC 3. SB 2003. A very unusual piece with high silver percentage in the alloy, probably a mint error? Extremely rare and as far as we know unique with this metal composition. Flat areas from incomplete striking, otherwise, nearly very fine.
