Alexius III, emperor of Trebizond, 1349-1390. Asper (Silver, 17 mm, 1.39 g, 6 h). St. Eugenius on horseback to right holding long cross; upper left and right, monogram; below horse, lis; between hind legs, three dots; in front uncertain letter. Rev. AΛΕ Alexius on horseback to right, holding three-crossed sceptre; upper right, monogram; below horse, star; between hind legs, three dots; in front letter B. Retowski 36-37 var (obverse monogram). Apparently an unpublished variant. Very fine.
