Estados Unidos gold 20 Pesos 1873-POPAYAN MS64 NGC, Popayan mint, KM142.3, Fr-100, Restrepo-339.10. The joint-finest certified example of this very conditionally sensitive heavy gold issue, and one that is typically inconceivable on the cusp of gem. Prone to numerous dings and contact marks on account of its weight, this piece omits all but the most minute wisps from its surfaces, its highly glassy sheen seen over both sides providing a virtually Prooflike finish that entirely captivates the viewer. Situated a full 4 grade points above the Millennia example, and 3 points above the Eldorado piece (with which it shares its dies), we can only anticipate the immense interest which this selection will garner as it crosses the auction block for the first time in over a decade.
